Tips for Sketching on Newsprint

Used for drawing, coloring and any classroom or home studio project, newsprint offers various styles and surfaces that make drawing fun!  Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

•    If you are sketching on location, choose a pad with a stiff back cover, so you’ll have a firm surface to work on.

•    Be sure to take a thick pad of newsprint to your figure drawing class, so you’ll have plenty of paper for sketching lots of poses.

•    Use newsprint for sketching preliminary plans for bigger projects.

•    Keep pads handy in a variety of sizes. Larger pads are ideal for class. Smaller ones are great on the go.

•    Rough textured newsprint works well with charcoal.

•    Pastel newsprint is fun for quick portraits, figures and fashion drawings.

•    Smooth textured newsprint results in cleaner lines.
