If you are planning to purchase a kiln, remember the following basic elements:
Electric Supply
Your building’s power supply determines the voltage and phase requirements of the kiln. Contact a local expert for this information. If your building has 208-volt single-phase current, your kiln should also be 208-volt single-phase current. Your kiln must be on a direct-wired dedicated circuit; the kiln should be the only appliance running on the circuit when the kiln if firing.

Lesson Overview
A mosaic is a surface decoration – a design or picture made by fitting together small pieces of different colored materials and cementing or grouting them in place. The small colored pieces of different materials are referred to as tesserae. Different colored pebbles, stones, shells, terra cotta, marble cubes, glass and gold are some of the materials used as tesserae. Mosaic examples are plentiful and can be found from many ancient civilizations. Sumerians, Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans utilized this art form. Different civilizations utilized different tesserae as well as different subject matter and designs. They used mosaics to embellish architectural structures, wall, floors, roads and pavements. The mosaic artist was a skilled craftsman – very much in demand and highly sought after. To become a master mosaic artist, one had to be first trained as an apprentice.
