Fantastic Fish Bulletin Board
“Fishing” for fresh new ways to decorate your classroom? With this Fantastic Fish Bulletin Board idea, decorating your classroom is as fun and easy as a day at the pool. We’ll show you how to make this display (nothing “fishy” here, it’s so easy!) and offer a few alternatives to customize it for your classroom.
How We Did It
We set the scene with an under-the-sea-themed background decoration and added corrugated blue border trim for more ocean appeal. Pre-cut bulletin board letters made it easy to spell out “Our School of Learners!”
For a fun craft time project, we had each student decorate his or her own fish. The kids used self-adhesive boards (pre-cut in fish shapes), tissue paper (both squares and strips), wiggle eyes, opalescent glitter and individual creativity to make these colorful decorations.
Make It Your Own
You can follow our instructions exactly or mix it up with these creative alternatives:
- To make your own underwater background, use light blue construction paper as the base, then crinkle some transparent blue plastic wrap and staple it over the construction paper.
- For the fish, you can create a fish-shaped stencil and have students trace and cut out their shapes on paper bags, construction paper or any other cardboard, thick paper or poster board.
- Almost any small craft embellishment you have around the classroom can be used to decorate the fish. Try sequins, markers, paint, glued-on beads or stickers! For the tails, try crepe paper streamers or pieces of fabric!
