Western VBS Snacks

Plastic Boot Mug With Root Beer Float

Add some spirited flavor to your Western Vacation Bible School with these yummy, lil’ cowpoke-friendly recipes!  They’re simple to prepare, plus these healthy snacks will keep kids going strong all day long with lots of giddy up.

Hay Stacks
6 oz. chocolate chips
6 oz. butterscotch chips
2 tsp. butter
4 cups chow mein noodles

Melt chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and butter together until smooth. Stir in chow mein noodles and mix thoroughly. Drop spoonfuls onto waxed paper and allow to cool.

Sweet Cactus Cheese Ball
Key lime cheese ball mix
Cream cheese
Graham cracker sticks

Prepare key lime cheese ball mix as directed, but do not roll into graham cracker crumbs. Refrigerate until chilled. Just before serving, poke graham cracker sticks at angles all over the cheese ball, so it looks just like a green, prickly cactus. Serve with lime juice.

Root Beer Floats
Diet root beer
Vanilla ice milk
Red licorice

Put one scoop of vanilla ice milk into individual cups. Pour root beer on top and serve immediately with a piece of red licorice to use as the straw.

Rootin’ Tootin’ Snack Mix
Spicy cheese crackers
Round pretzels
Corn squares cereal
Candy “rocks”

Combine all the ingredients and fill red and blue bandannas with the snack mix. Tie each end together to form pouches. Serve with glasses of cold milk, this one can be spicy!

Sheriff Badge Sandwiches
Wheat bread slices
Peanut butter
Green apples (peeled, cored and sliced thin)
Bananas (peeled and sliced)
Strawberry jelly (in a squeeze container)

Spread peanut butter onto slices of bread. Layer apple and banana slices on one piece of bread and top with another piece of bread. Using a large cookie cutter, cut out star shapes from the sandwich. Using strawberry jelly, outline the star shape or draw an “S” for sheriff.

Once snack time is over, kids will be ready for play time.  Check out fun activities you can plan that tie into your Western VBS Theme.
