A Guide to Celebrating Halloween at Work

Surrounded by grave coworkers?  Want to bring your business to life? Halloween is a great opportunity raise employee spirits and have a little workday fun!  Halloween promotions can draw traffic to your business and leave customers, employees and the community with a haunting good impression. Check out these fun ideas for celebrating Halloween at work.


Decorations

  • Decorate the front reception area, hallways and break room with creepy spiderwebs, skeletons, bats, Halloweenatwork spiders and other spooky decor.
  • Have a decorating contest between the departments in your business, or have a contest for most haunting employee office space. You can even promote a decorating contest with another area business!  A decorating contest is a great way to bring out employee creativity and encourage collaboration between co-workers.
  • Decorate the front windows of your business and impress customers with a fabulously fun Halloween scene of ghastly ghosts, witches, skeletons and pumpkins.

Food

  • Eat, drink and be scary!  Have food catered in for employees, or organize a potluck lunch and encourage everyone to bring in their favorite eerie edibles.  Decorate the lunchroom with streamers and tableware, then give everyone a Halloween goody bag before they leave.
  • Bring trick-or-treating to work!  Put candy at the reception area for guests to enjoy, or surprise coworkers with strange sweets like gross finger gummy fries, gummy bugs or gumball eyes.
  • If you have kids coming into your business, treat them to sweets and novelties. From classic candy to unique toys and games, fun and affordable giveaways will get the attention of all ages. 

Activities

  • A costume contest is another great way to boost employee morale and encourage creativity.  When planning a costume contest, include fun categories such as most creative, most scary, and best group costume.  Prizes for the costume contest could include gift bags full of Halloween tricks, toys and treats.
  • Promote your business with a Halloween festival.  Get everyone involved with prize drawings, bobbing for apples, fun Halloween kids’ crafts or an all-ages costume contest. Invite customers to dress up in costumes, or have customers vote on which employee has the best costume!  This is a great way to get customers, employees and the community all in on the fun.
