Halloween Scavenger Hunt

Indoors or out, a Halloween scavenger hunt is sure to make everyone scream and shout!  Wicked fun awaits…follow me, let’s go!

First, consider whether you want a theme for your scavenger hunt.  It will be easier to choose items forHalloweentreatbag  the “hunt” and to write clues around a theme than to start from scratch.  Will you give people clues for items that might be found in a mad scientist’s lab, a vampire’s lair, a witch’s cave or haunted house?  Consider how many people you’ll have participating to help you decide how many treasurers you’ll need to hide – and how many clues you’ll need to leave.

Next, decide who will be on your ghost list, and send out your Halloween Scavenger Hunt invitations.  To add your own spirited touch, craft your own frighteningly fun invites! Tempt your favorite spooks with a treat bag or box filled with items they’re soon to search, such as eerie edibles, glowing gadgets and spooky stickers.  Once they receive your invitations, everyone will be dying to come to your party.

FilledpumpkinsIf your scavenger hunt is catered to kids, you’ll need a safe, supervised space for them to search for treasures.  Consider using your own back yard, but make sure it’s clutter-free and well-lit.  For adults, consider spreading the search out across the neighborhood, or across town, where teams can drive from clue to clue and all end up at the same final party destination together.

Once all the boys, ghouls or adults arrive, divide them into teams and have them choose a creepy or kooky team name.  Provide name tags, markers, glitter and stickers to help identify each team’s members. Give everyone a print out of easy-to-follow clues and let ‘em loose!

Lastly, in addition to clues along the way, don’t forget to get prizes for the winning teams.  Costs can add up, so consider inexpensive Halloween candy, toys, pencils or stickers.
