It seems like there’s one in every classroom. You know, that one kid who just can’t resist the smooth, creamy texture and delightful taste of… paste.
In my kindergarten class, that kid was Misty. You could always trust her to eat a dollop of glue during craft times. According to Misty, the rest of us didn’t know what we were missing without this tasty treat in our lives.
My repertoire of glue choices has grown considerably since the days of paste. Now I keep all my adhesives in a desk organizer so I can grab exactly the right adhesive for the job. This week I thought I’d look through my organizer and share some of my adhesive tips.
Adhesive Quick Guide:
Tape Runners
• Fast and mess-free
• Ideal for big projects
• Perfect for paper
Tape Sheets
• Easy to cut to size
• Ideal for adhering unusual shapes
• Super sticky
Dots and Squares
• Fast and easy to use
• Ideal for intricate work and unusual shapes
• Can layer for fun effects
Trouble-Shooting:
• Adhering sheer ribbons can be difficult. Tape runners show and some glues bleed through, creating a sticky mess. My friend Dawn offered this suggestion:
“I use dot-type adhesives and then dust it with an embossing powder to get rid of the extra stickiness that pops through.”
• Acrylic albums can pose a problem when you are decorating them because every bit of adhesive will show. So use clear tape runners to minimize the glue and then you can always disguise it by layering on embellishments.
• When in doubt, GlueDot® it. They are easy to use with no dry time, so you will know instantly if it is going to stick successfully.
Hopefully these tips will help you through those sticky situations where glue is concerned!
Your friend,
Mary
