Valentine’s Day Party for Kids
Planning a Valentine’s Day party for kids, whether at home or in the classroom is a piece of cake with this easy guide. Check out the following ideas for decorations, games, activities, party favors, and food.
Decorations
Red, pink and white are the signature colors for Valentine’s Day, so stock up on decorations like rose petals, balloons, and ceiling decorations. Give kids construction paper and let them cut out paper hearts to scatter on tables.
If you still have a small, plastic Christmas tree handy, have the kids cut out heart-shaped garland to hang around the tree. They can also string together red, pink, and white beads for festive Valentine’s Day garland. Then, instead of an angel, top off the tree with a cupid!
Cover tables with streamers along the sides for a festive touch.
Party Favors
Don’t let your Valentine’s Day party guests leave empty handed! Take Valentine’s Day goody bags and fill them with novelties from an assortment, or for a real timesaver, use Valentine’s Day assembled gifts. You can also take Valentine’s Day boxes and fill them with themed stationery, sweet treats and novelty jewelry!
Games & Activities:
Word Find
Create a Valentine’s Day word find for kids! Use words like, love, cherish, kindness, heart, cupid, sweetheart and chocolate.
Bingo
Play a fun game of Valentine’s Day Bingo! Instead of the usual bingo markers, use cute conversation hearts.
Guessing Game
How do I love thee…let me count the ways! Fill a jar with conversation hearts, then let everyone guess how many there are. The closest to get it right without going over gets to take the candy home!
Scavenger Hunt
Plan a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt. Hide Valentine-themed novelties around the house or classroom and with each toy kids find, give them a rhyming clue to the next one. For the grand prize, put together a basket filled with candy, toys and treats they’ll love! Here’s an example of a clue you can use. The next prize, so I’m told, is hidden a place that is cold, so if it’s love that’s on your mind, look inside it, and you will find. (The prize is in the refrigerator.)
Crafts
Get creative with a Valentine’s Day classic! Help kids decorate Valentine boxes or baskets for the classroom party to collect Valentine’s from their classmates. Let them use embellishments like beads, foam and felt shapes, jewels, doilies, conversation hearts and stickers. Make sure you have enough glue on hand!
For fun gifts kids can bring home from school, let them decorate their own sun catchers, fleece pillows, photo frames, pins, and jewelry crafts for parents and family members.
Sow the seeds of love and have kids color-their-own flower pots! Start by having students plant seeds to grow in the classroom window. After they decorate their flower pots, have them plant their flowers in each pot to take home as gifts.
Treats & Snacks
Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out red gelatin hearts for a wiggly, sweet treat.
Decorate heart-shaped cookies and use frosting to write each person’s name on a cookie. Wrap in red cellophane and add them to goody bags!
Decorate cupcakes with pink frosting, then use red frosting to write each guests’ name and use them as sweet place cards.
Make “Cupid’s Love Potion” punch. Mix white grape juice, lemon/lime soda, and frozen strawberries for a sweet concoction.
